COUNSELING OVERVIEW
WHAT IS CHRISTIAN OR PASTORAL COUNSELING?
A Pastoral Counselor integrates psychology and theology to affect a
change in the client. Christian counseling focuses on the Lord as the
healer and the Holy Spirit as the counselor and the solutions to man’s
struggles are found in God’s Word, the Bible.
1 Thessalonians 5:23shows man to be composed of three components: body, soul and spirit.
All three must be in balance for man to be everything God designed him
to be. Because we are created by God and are unique (
Psalm 139:13-16), we react to people, places and things differently.
A qualified Pastoral Counselor administering an analysis, which
takes only 8-10 minutes to complete, can measure that difference. It
gives insight into how we perceive superficial interaction with people,
how much we want to control a situation or be controlled in a
situation, and how we perceive very deep relationships. The profile
provides the client a numerical graph for each component and a
narrative to read, which provides an in-depth look at each component.
The analysis also alleviates the need for 7-8 counseling sessions, as
it illuminates the mind, will and emotions of the client.
Each of us has strengths and weakness unique to our temperament
combinations. During times of stress we often use temperament
weaknesses to cope, which causes more stress. A treatment plan is
devised, with the help of the client, to go to the heart of the problem
causing the crisis, not behaviors that result from the stress.
