Demonstrating A Spirit Of Thankfulness

11-20-11 AM

Text: 1 Chronicles 16:8-12

Introduction: 1 Chronicles 16:8-12     Give thanks unto the LORD,

Giving thanks to the Lord should be a natural act for God’s people!

From Chronicles to Corinthians & from Romans to Revelation we are told 39 times… give thanks.

Hundreds of times we are instructed to thank, praise, worship & express appreciation to God in various ways for all he’s done.

2 Corinthians 5:7… says--we walk by faith, not by sight

That Faith demands… thanking  Him in advance for His promises!

One:  A Spirit Of Thankfulness… Opens Communication So We Can Call On Jesus

1 Chronicles 16:8-12… Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name,

Have you ever been asked-- Why didn’t you CALL me?

John 14:13-16And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

Why not ask?  Then “Thank” Him for the answer!

Two:  A Spirit Of Thankfulness … Inspires Us To Share Jesus

1 Chronicles 16:8-12     Give thanks unto the LORD … make known his deeds among the people… talk of all his wondrous works

.

            Brag on Jesus…

Tell what He has done in your life…

Tell what He has done in your family…

Tell what He has done in your Church…

Tell what He has done in the past… rehearse the biblical accounts of His divine Intervention!

Psalm 111:1-2… I will praise the LORD with [my] whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and [in] the congregation.  2 The works of the LORD [are] great, sought out by all them that have pleasure in Him.

Malachi 1:11… from the rising of the sun, even to its going down, My name shall be great among the Gentiles; In every place incense shall be offered to My name, And a pure offering; For My name shall be great among the nations,” Says the Lord of hosts.

Three:  A Spirit Of Thankfulness … Inspires The Expression Of Praise In Songs

1 Chronicles 16:8-9… Give thanks unto the LORD … Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him,

Sing to Jesus… not to human hearers… He doesn’t care if you can’t carry a tune!    He only cares if you do it in Love!

Psalm 98:4… Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.

Over 300 times singing & music of praise are mentioned in scripture.

Let’s sing together: Lord you are Good

Four:  A Spirit Of Thankfulness … Magnifies His Name

1 Chronicles 16:8-10… Give thanks unto the LORD … Glory in his holy name:

Philippians 2:9-11God has highly exalted him, and given him a name which

is above every name:  10  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, ... And every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Matthew 12:21 in his name the Gentiles shall trust

Luke 24:46… repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations,

Acts 3:13-16… The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his Son Jesus; whom you delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate… 16 And his name… through faith in   his name has made this man strong, whom you see and know: yea, the faith which is by Jesus has given him this perfect health in the presence of you all.

Five:  A Spirit Of Thankfulness … Rejoices In Seeking Jesus

1 Chronicles 16:8-11     Give thanks unto the LORD … let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.  11 Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.

Matthew 6:33seek first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Hebrews 12:2Looking unto Jesus  the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Philippians 4:4   Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.

Six:  A Spirit Of Thankfulness … Remembers What & Where You Were

1 Chronicles 16:8-12… Give thanks unto the LORD … 12 Remember his marvelous works that he has done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;

John 9:19-25…Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then does he now see?

Remember… you were blind… but now you see

Remember… not everyone will be pleased that you can see!

Remember… even your closest friends or family may not understand what has taken place in your life!

Remember…Give Thanks in the face of all opposition!

24 Then they called the man again that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.  25   He answered and said, Whether he is a sinner or no, I do not know: one thing I know, that, whereas I once was blind, now I see.

Remember Your experience will put all opposition to shame …

Remember GiveThanks for the work God has done in your life… leave the explaining to God!

Remember & rejoice… You were blind… now you see!

Luke 15:17-24… And when the prodigal son… came to himself, he said, …  I will arise and go to my father, and say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before you,  19  And am no longer worthy to be called your son: make me as one of your hired servants.

Remember… The Prodigal’s resolution to accept culpability for his sin… change directions… & face the music!

20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

Remember… God is looking over the horizon for sinners to come home to His loving embrace!

Remember… to Give Thanks for His Grace & acceptance!

21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.  22  But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put [it] on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on [his] feet:  23  And kill the fatted calf, bring[it]; and let us eat, and be merry:  24  For this my son was dead, and is alive again; … he was lost , and is  found .

                        Rememberwhat you were… a sinner

Rememberwhere you were…  the hog pen!

Rememberhow He the Father received you in His grace!!!

FinallyGive thanks unto the LORD by giving… tithe & offerings are recorded, instructed & referred to over 800 times from Genesis to Revelation!

Give thanks in tangible service…  get involved in ministry

Share your faith with an unbeliever… be a witness

Practice praise daily… Sing to his glory… & tell Him what He means to you

Remember where you came from…

And be faithful in supporting God’s Work!
