Asking The Right Questions...
11-27-11 AM
Introduction: Thanksgiving is just passed; Christmas is just around the corner…
We are living in a confused culture… Celebrating the birth of Jesus… the Son of God... Him who people ignore or even despise the rest of the year, becomes center stage.
Christmas is a reminder of our Savior; His Virgin Birth, His life of miracles and His sacrifice that purchased both the present and future security of His Kingdom and its people.
To bridge the days between Thanksgiving and Christmas we will ask several questions... from two opposing views…
Text: Psalm 115:2 cries out through the ages...Why should the Gentiles say, “So where is their God?"
Man is always questioning God
But what are the Questions we should be asking?
1. Man asks… where is the Lamb for a burnt offering?
Genesis 22:7… Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, "My father!" And he said, "Here I am, my son." Then he said, "Look, the fire and the wood, but where[ is ] the lamb for a burnt offering?"
The Man of Faith asks... what can I offer the Lamb?
Malachi 3:3… He will purify the sons of Levi, And purge them as gold and silver, That they may offer to the Lord An offering in righteousness.
1 Peter 2:5… you also, as living stones, are being built up… to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
Hebrew 13:15… let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of [our] lips, giving thanks to His name
2. Man asks… where is the Lord God of Elijah?
2 Kings 2:14… Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the water, and said, " Where [is] the Lord God of Elijah?"
The Man of Faith asks... Where are the Elijah’s of the Lord God?
Men with Christian character like Elijah…
We have a great profile of a man like Elijah...
1 King 17:13… And Elijah said to her, "Do not fear;
1 Kings 17:22… Then the Lord heard the voice of Elijah…
1 King 18:8… Go, tell your master, (Ahab) ' Elijah [is] [here].'
1 Kings 18:21… And Elijah came to all the people, and said, "How long will you falter between two opinions?
1 Kings 18:36… (On Mt. Carmel) Elijah the prophet came near and said, "Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You [are] God in Israel and I [am] Your servant, and [that] I have done all these things at Your word.
3. Man asks… Where shall we build the House of God?
Isaiah 66:1… Thus says the Lord: "Heaven [is] My throne, And earth [is] My footstool. Where [is] the house that you will build Me?
The Man of Faith asks... where is the man who will become God’s House?
1 Peter 2:5… you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house
1 Corinthians 3:9-11… For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, [you] [are] God’s building. 10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. 11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
4. Man asks… where is the Word of the Lord?
Jeremiah 17:15… “Where [is] the word of the Lord?”
The Man of Faith asks... where are those who hear and keep the Word?
Jeremiah 11:6… Then the Lord said to me, "Proclaim all these words in the cities… saying: ' Hear the words of this covenant and do them.
Ezekiel 37:4… 'O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! 5 'thus says the Lord God to these bones: "Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live.
Luke 8:21… Jesus said... "My mother and My brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it."
(Read the next 3 passages without a pause for comment)
Luke 11:28… blessed [are] those who hear the word of God and keep it!"
Acts 13:44… almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God….
Luke 5:1… the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of God,
5. Man asks… where is the new born King?
Matthew 2:2… “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews?
The Man of Faith asks... where is the man born-again by the King?
John 3:3… Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again , he cannot see the kingdom of God."
1 Peter 1:22-24… Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, 23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, 24 because “All flesh [is] as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass.
6. Man asks… in doubt, where is the Promise of His Coming?
2 Peter 3:4… “Where is the promise of His coming?
The Man of Faith asks... where are those who faithfully look for His coming?
2 Peter 3:13-14… we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. 14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless;
Titus 2:12-13… we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,
Acts 1:10-11… And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; 11 which also said, you men of Galilee, why stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as you have seen him go
The Man of Faith asks...
