John The Baptist Seeks Affirmation

Matthew 11:1-12:8…

John needed his disciples to know that he was committed to “One True God”

John was also checking on his investment- building legacy for his disciples

John wanted his disciples to follow Jesus

 

Matthew 11:4-6…

            Jesus gave substance not philosophy

Jesus called attention to fruit not vain defenses

Jesus then issued the ultimate challenge- don’t be offended with Christ

 

Matthew 11:7-15… 

Jesus demonstrates complete loyalty to John as prophet & friend

Jesus is fulfilling what he just taught in Matthew 10:32-33…

Jesus then challenges everyone to hear & receive the message & ministry of John the Baptist

 

Matthew 11:16-19…

                        Jesus declares the expanse of man ability to reject God

Come with music, or solemn silence- men reject Him

Come with fasting and simple ways or come with feasts and fellowship- Men still reject Him

 

Matthew 11:20-24… 

Jesus reproves the cities He visited with the Gospel

He compares their guilt with the guilt of Sodom

Rejecting  Christ is far worse than merely rejecting His Law

 

Matthew 11:25-27…

Jesus  declares the blessings of the kingdom invisible to the wise & self-sufficient

Only  they who listen like children will see the Power of the Kingdom

 

Matthew 11:28-30…

Jesus invites His true followers to come to Him for rest

Jesus also invites us to see Him as He really is

He is Gentle & Meek-

His demands are a perfect fit for every Christian

His calling for your life is not heavy

 

Jesus Reveals Sabbath Principles To The Pharisees

Matthew 12:1-8…

Typical, by now, challenge & criticism by the religious leaders

Jesus was incredulous at their lack of understanding…

Haven’t you read about David?

Don’t you remember the labor of the

Jesus blasts all rituals and self-righteousness

He is greater than the temple

His teachings are principles higher than any restriction

He is Lord of Sabbath--- Lord of Man’s Rest!

Matthew 11:28…
